Setting up Outlook Express
to access your POP3 Account

Introduction

Setting up your POP account is a relatively easy procedure with most email clients, however, if not done exactly right, it can cause all sorts of frustration. For that reason, we have created this basic Step-by-Step page to help you out! Most email problems that people encounter are due to the incorrect information set up in their software.

1. Start by opening Outlook and clicking on 'Tools' and then 'Accounts'.

2. You should see a smaller window opened called "Internet Accounts". Click on the "Add" button and select "Mail". This will bring up the Internet Connection Wizard window.

3. On the first screen of the Internet Connection Wizard, you have to type your full name. After you have typed in your name, press "Next".

4. On this screen select "I already have and e-mail address that I'd like to use" if it's not already selected. Now type in your full email address. It should look something like (customers username)@(customers domain), change user to your hosting username and (customers domain) to the domain name of your server, now press "Next".

5. On this screen make sure "My incoming mail server is a" is set to "POP3". Then enter (customers domain) for the "Incoming mail (POP3) server" and for "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" you need to put in your ISP's SMTP details (if you don't what it is contact the support department at your ISP), now press "Next".

6. On this screen make sure you put your hosting username in the "Account name" box, this should be in all lowercase, then in the "Password" box type your password to your hosting account, keep in mind this can be numbers, letters both UPPER and lower case, now press "Next".

Note: You must type your username and password exactly as they were sent to you in your "Configurations" that you got when your hosting account was setup. If you have changed your password, please use the newest password.

That's it. You have now configured and setup Outlook Express to send and receive email via your web hosting account.

Checking or Editing your Account Setup

If you have already set up your POP account and are just checking your settings, or enabling the "My server requires authentication" feature, you can use the "Properties" area.

Start by opening Outlook and clicking on 'Tools' then 'Accounts'. From there you should see a smaller window is opened called "Internet Accounts". Click on the account you wish to check or edit and then click the 'Properties' button. You should now be in the "Properties" area under the 'General' tab. Make sure that the email address and your name information appears correctly.

Next, click the 'Servers' tab. Make sure that your Incoming and Outgoing SMTP server settings are correct. An example setup is as follows:

Incoming mail (POP3): (yourdomain.com)
Outgoing mail (SMTP): (your ISP provides you with this information)
Account name: (username of your hosting account)
Password: ************
Remember Password: (checked)
Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA): (NOT CHECKED)
My server requires authentication (checked)

Now click 'Ok' and then when you are back at the "Internet Accounts" window, click 'Close' and you're done!
